I. Introduction:
a. Putting on the full armor of God is an act of preparation – not a spur of the moment event.
b. Paul suggests it is a continual way through prayer to stand firm.
6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
c. We are surrounded by evil and people with evil intentions. Paul says these intentions are influenced – even driven - by the unseen world.
12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
d. Instead of seeing a demon under every bush, think of demonic influence like GERMS.
e. Last week our focus was on what it means to put on the Helmet of Salvation.
i. The Helmet of Salvation assures us of our ultimate victory of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
ii. PUTTING ON THE Helmet of Salvation protects your mind where spiritual battles are either won or lost.
f. This week our focus in on what it means to put on the final piece of the armor – the Sword of the Spirit.
II. RELATING THE TEXT:
a. The Roman soldier’s sword was used to protect him in an attack and help him move the charge forward. It was a defensive and an offensive weapon.
b. The Sword of the Spirt is the Word of God.
i. It protects and defends us
ii. It is our weapon to advance the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. (Gideons)
c. To use the Sword of the Spirit we must SPEAK it.
i. To speak it we must KNOW it and UNDERSTAND it.
d. The sword of the spirit is employed to speak the truth in love.
III. APPLICATION
a. Hebrews 4:12. The Sword of the Spirit is an effective weapon against what ails us in the world.
b. It’s not just about quoting bible verses. If we hide God’s word in our hearts it can be the words God gives us to speak in any given situation:
i. A word of Comfort to someone
ii. A word of Hope
iii. A word of courage or encouragement
iv. A challenge to apathy or moral decline
v. A word of witness, prophesy, or teaching,
vi. A word of exhortation or wisdom
IV. CONCLUSION:
a. The sword of the spirit in unison with the whole Armor of God allows us to be instruments of God’s Holy will.
b. When we abide with God He abides with us and gives us hope.
c. When we speak the word of God, we are victorious over the enemies of our faith.

Ephesians 6:10-17 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
