The Breastplate of Righteousness - #3 of 7
Ephesians 6:13-14 Victory Fellowship

I. Introduction:
a. OUICK REVIEW: There are four major ideals that we commit to when we put on the belt of truth:
i. Jesus is the ESSENCE of TRUTH
ii. SCRIPTURE is the WORD of TRUTH
iii. The HOLY SPIRIT is the PERSON of TRUTH
iv. The CHURCH is the PILLAR and FOUNDATION of TRUTH
v. The Truth is - Everything does hinge on the truth.
vi. If we fail to put on the belt of truth, none of the other 5 pieces of the armor will be as effective and, in fact, will ultimately fail.
b. This week our focus in on what it means to put on the Breastplate of Righteousness.
II. RELATING THE TEXT:
a. The breastplate protects the vulnerable heart of the believer – the area where we are tempted to sin and/or where we feel defeated because of our sin. Ps 119:11 Thy word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against Thee.
b. The breastplate encompasses the righteousness of God
Phil. 3:8-11 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Mt 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Mt 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
c. When we put on the Breastplate of Righteousness, we do so by FAITH.
Ro 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
d. We acknowledge our need for a Savior
Mt 5:20 "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.
e. We accept God’s gift in Christ
Ro 5:21 that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
III. APPLICATION:
a. When we choose to put on the Breastplate of Righteousness, Passions are Redeemed and Redirected
i. We choose not to harbor and nurture sin
Ro 6:13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
b. Death loses its sting
Ro 8:10 And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
2Co 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
1Pe 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
1Cor 15:55-57 "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
IV. CONCLUSION:
a. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we can put on The Belt of Truth and the Breastplate of Righteousness every day.
PRAYER
SONG: Lord I Need You
Ephesians 6:13-14 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
