The Full Armor of God - #1 of 7
Ephesians 6:10-13 Victory Fellowship
August 10, 2025 - Rev. Roderick Grabski
- Introduction:
- Success is where opportunity and preparedness meet. Some also call that luck.
- There is an opinion that one can actually dress for success.
- Putting on the full armor of God is an act of preparation – not a spur of the moment event.
- Paul suggests it is a continual way through prayer to stand firm and be successful in our faith. 6:18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
- RELATING THE TEXT:
- A reminder about who Paul is writing the letter of Ephesians to:
- Not just one church but all the Christian churches in Ephesus.
- Christians in Ephesus were challenged DAILY to live IN the world but not OF it.
- Capital city of Roman province of Asia
- Leading trade center for Roman Empire
- Center for pagan worship – especially to goddess Diana – her temple was one of 7 wonders of the ancient world
- Beautiful, wealthy, pagan
- A reminder about who Paul is writing the letter of Ephesians to:
- The churches in Ephesus were surrounded by temptations that would led to spiritual death.
- In this environment if they let their guard down at all they could succumb to the enemy of their faith.
- That’s why Paul tells them to dress for success: Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
- On April 12, 1961, aboard his Vostok 3KA-2 spacecraft, Yuri Gagarin became the first human in outer space and the first to orbit the Earth. It was reported that he said, after exiting the earth’s orbit, “I don’t see any God up here.” (take space suit off)
- Yuri put his suit on BEFORE he needed it. He dressed for success because in space he was literally surrounded by death.
- We are too. That’s why we need protection.
- We are surrounded by evil and people with evil intentions. Paul says these intentions are influenced – even driven - by the unseen world. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly place
- Instead of seeing a demon under every bush, think of demonic influence like GERMS.
- APPLICATION:
- WHY should we put on the full armor of God?
- Because Satan our enemy wants to destroy us with his top 5 tactics:
- Prevent prayer – lead to Self-sufficiency
- Prevent unity – lead to Divisions
- Prevent commitment – lead to complacency
- Prevent joy – lead to discouragement
- Prevent Spiritual Growth – lead to worldly temptations.
- Because Satan our enemy wants to destroy us with his top 5 tactics:
- WHY should we put on the full armor of God?
- CONCLUSION:
- EPHESUS – the rest of the story (Rev. 2:4-5)
“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
- For the next six weeks, we are going to discover elements of the full armor of God and how we can dress for success everyday.
