I.    ANNOUNCEMENTS and PRAYER CONCERNS

II.    Read / Listen to John 9:1-41
a.    What are your initial impressions or Notable translation differences?

III.    Jesus Heals a Man who was Blind from Birth (vv. 1-7)
a.    This person is different from the accounts in Matthew 20:29-34, Mark 10:46-52, and Luke 18:35-43

b.    This is the sixth of seven signs that John relates to highlight Jesus as God and Messiah: 
1.    Water into Wine at Cana (2:1-11)
2.    Healing the Official’s Son (4:46-54)
3.    Healing a Lame man at the Pool of Bethesda (5:1-18)
4.    Feeding the Five Thousand (6:1-15)
5.    Walking of the Sea of Galilee (6:16-21)
6.    Healing a Man born Blind (9:1-41)
7.    Raising Lazarus from the Dead (11:1-45)

c.     (vv. 1-2) What is the underlying assumption in the disciple’s question?

d.    (vv. 3-5) Compare translations of these verses. Did God intentionally blind this man so Jesus could heal him? 

e.    What do you make of Jesus’ talk of day and night?

f.    This is also one of the Seven “I Am” Discourses in John’s Gospel:
1.    “I am the Bread of Life” (6:35,48)
2.    “I am the Light of the World” (8:12; 9:5)
3.    “I am the Door of the Sheep” (10:7,9)
4.    “I am the Good Shepherd” (10:11,14)

g.    (vv. 6-7) What is significant about John informing his readers what the word “Siloam” means? Jesus will not reappear until verse 35.

h.    How does the account of Jesus healing this blind man wonderfully illustrate the salvation process?

IV.    The Blind Man’s Neighbors (vv. 8-12)
a.    (vv. 8-9) When you have a life changing encounter with Jesus, people will notice.

b.    (vv. 10-12) What are the things that stand out to you in the healed man’s testimony?

V.    The Pharisees Question the Healed Man (vv. 13-17)
a.    (vv. 13-15) Why was the man brought to the Pharisees?

b.    (vs. 16) What are the Pharisees concerned about?

c.    (vs. 17) What does the man reveal about himself in his answer?

VI.    The Synagogue Jews Question the Man’s Parents (vv. 18-23)
a.    Why did the Jews question the man’s parents? 

b.    How do they respond and why?

VII.    The Healed Man Questioned a 2nd Time (vv. 24-34)
a.    (vs. 24) Why do they question the man again? What do they mean by “give glory to God?” Why do they think Jesus is a sinner?

b.    (vv. 25-33) What is remarkable about the man’s conversation?

c.    (vs. 34) What does this reveal about the Jews in the synagogue?

VIII.    Jesus Reveals Who can See and Who is Blind (vv. 35-41)
a.    (vv. 35-38) Jesus returns to the man. Highlight the progression of faith in this man’s conversation with Jesus.

b.    (vv. 39-41) What specifically is the paradox that Jesus reveals?

IX.    Application
a.    We need far more than our eyes to see the salvation that the Lord brings to all who seek Him. (2nd Corinthians 5:7; Hebrews 11:1-3)
