Session Twenty-seven: Showing the Splendor

1)    GATHERING and OPENING PRAYER

2)    READ / LISTEN to Isaiah 60:1 – 61:11
a)    What are your initial impressions?  Questions? Notable differences in translations?

3)    IN A NUTSHELL:
God wakes Jerusalem up to receive foreign delegations who have come to worship Him in their temple. They bring with them great riches to offer as sacrifices to God. God no longer shows anger but compassion to His people and uses the coming of the nations to teach His people that He is their Savior and Redeemer. Righteousness and peace will replace violence and destruction. God anoints His Messenger to preach good news the poor, bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to proclaim that God’s day of vengeance has come. Ruined cities and devastated land will be restored. God’s people will become priests for the world and experience everlasting joy. This is part of God’s everlasting covenant. So God’s messenger sings God’s praise.
