1) GATHERING and OPENING PRAYER
2) READ / LISTEN to Isaiah 15:1 – 17:14
a) The Cities of Moab (see map)
What are your initial impressions? Questions?
Are there notable differences in various translations?
3) PROPHESY AGAINST MOAB (15:1 – 16:14):
a) Moab’s relationship with Israel / Judah
i) Near Kin of Abraham (Genesis 19:29-38)
ii) The Mesha Stele (2nd Kings 3)
iii) Turned Against Judah (2nd Kings 24:2)
b) (15:2) The temple in Dibon was to worship Chemosh and/or Ashthar-Chemosh.
c) Mt. Nebo was where Moses was allowed to view the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 34:1-6)
d) (15:5) What is significant about God’s heart crying for Moab? (Also 16:9, 11)
e) (15:5-9) These verses describe the attempted escape route for those who survived the destruction in northern Moab.
f) (16:1-5) Those who escape seek refuge with Judah.

4) PROPHESY AGAINST DAMASCUS (17:1-11):
a) Damascus claims to be the oldest city in the world and that may be true.
b) Damascus was the capital of Syria and this woe oracle pertains to all of Syria.
c) (17:1-3) Land in Ruins.
d) (17:4-11) A Forsaken Bough.
i) Four Sins Implied:
(1) Self-Glory (v. 4)
(2) Idol Worship (v. 7)
(3) Forgetting God (v. 10)
(4) Taking Blessings for Granted (v. 11)
ii) Punishment for the Sins:
(1) Leanness of the Harvest (vv. 4-6)
(2) No Salvation in Idols (v. 7)
(3) Reduced to a Remnant (v. 9)
(4) Reap a Heap of Ruins (vv. 10-11)
iii) On forsaken branches see Romans 11:19-21
5) WOE TO THE NATIONS (17:12-14):
a) God’s Summary and Warning (If you’re gonna be dumb, you’d better be tough!)
6) APPLICATION:
a) Trust God even in horrible situations. (Job 1:21-22)
b) Adjust your attitude. (Philippians 2:1-11)
c) Pray for your enemies and mourn for their losses. (Matthew 5:43-48)
d) Remove the false gods and idols from your life. (Exodus 20:3-6)
7) WRAP UP and CLOSE IN PRAYER
