Session Two:  Restoration Through Repentance 

1)    GATHERING and OPENING PRAYER

2)    READ / LISTEN to Isaiah 1:1-31
What are your initial impressions?  Questions? Are there notable differences in various translations? 

3)    Calling the Confused to Court  (vv. 1-3):
a)    Isaiah = the Who, When, and Where of his calling (vs 1)

b)    Two Witnesses  (vs 2 - see also Deuteronomy 19:15, 30:19, 31:28, 32:1)

c)    Who is Dumber than a Donkey?   (vs 3)

4)    Lamenting the Lost  (vv. 4-9):
a)    God doesn’t Mince Words (vs 4)
i)    Sinful – afj  (chata')  = breaking a personal relationship, not just a law

ii)    Guilt / Iniquity – nw[ (‘avon) = crooked, bent out of shape lifestyle

iii)    Seed of Evildoers -  [[r [rz   (zera`  ra`a`) = generally wicked

iv)    Corrupt Children – my[rm  (mere ‘im) = military term for total destruction of human well-being

5)    Reviving The Religious (vv. 10-17):

b)    Godly Advice (vv. 16-17) – Micah 6:8 Song from Veggie Tales  

6)    Turn or Burn (vv. 18-31):
a)    Promise of a Reasonable God  (vv. 18-20)

b)    Current situation not good (vv. 21-24)

c)    Some Restored- Some Crushed and Burned (vv. 25-31)
i)    Penalty for Worshipping Asherah or Baal in Trees and Gardens (vv. 29-30)

7)    APPLICATION:
a)    Confession and Repentance are Good for the Soul. (1st John 1:9)

b)    God is Forgiving and can Wash us Clean. (1st John 1:7)

c)    It Takes more than Religious Ritual to win God’s Favor. (Proverbs 15:8)

d)    Even in the face of Sinful Rebellion, God offers Hope and Promise to those who turn back to Him. (Micah 6:8)

8)    WRAP UP and CLOSE IN PRAYER
