Introduction: The Basics of Faith Series
In the first in this series I shared how important it is that we have a basic understanding of our Obedience to God. Remember that w/o a desire to obey God we can’t properly manage any aspect of our faith.

The next week I shared how important it is that we have a proper perspective of our FEAR – not only of what gives us anxiety, but also FEAR of God.

The third week I shared how important it is that we give our PRAISE to God.

The fourth week I shared how we can embrace the basics of FORGIVENESS

Last week I talked about how we can embrace the basics of INTERCESSION. Praying for others.

Today I want encourage the basic faith practice of DISCIPLING. That is becoming a disciple and making disciples.

Jesus called Disciples, not Cheerleaders - not Fans (rocks)
Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

We must first BE a disciple in order to Disciple others
Disciples recognize Jesus as LORD of their life.
Disciples Deny Self
Disciples STUDY, WITNESS, and PRAY
Disciples who are growing in faith desire to MAKE other disciples
All disciples grow under the Full Counsel of God, or what John Wesley called, “going on toward perfection”

FULL COUNCIL OF GOD
1) SALVATION
 Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
2) “Filled” or Baptized with the HOLY SPIRIT
Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."
3) Put on The Full Armor of God
Ephesians 6:11-17 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
4) The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
5) Grow under the Ministries of the Spirit
Ephesians 4:11-12  And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
6) Receive and Exercise Spiritual Gifts
1st Peter 4:10  As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Romans 12:6a Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly:
We embrace the basics of our faith by becoming disciples of Jesus Christ and then making disciples for Jesus Christ.

MARK 8:31-38: 31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and *said, "Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God's interests, but man's." 34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. 36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 "For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."
