I.    ANNOUNCEMENTS and PRAYER CONCERNS

II.    Read / Listen / Discuss ACTS 27:1 – 28:16
a.    Follow along using the map of Paul’s Journey to Rome
b.    Discuss initial observations & translation differences
•    27:28; 28:2, 11, 16

III.    Paul and Company Embark (27:1-26)
a.    “We” language gives evidence of Luke’s participation.
•    Aristarchus mentioned in Acts 19:29; 20:4; 27:2; Colossians 4:10, Philemon 24

b.    Vivid and accurately instructive narrative of ancient Seamanship.
•    First hand, non-sailor knowledge. No doubt Luke was there.

c.    Paul treated with Care and Consideration by Romans (vs 3)

d.    They board an Alexandrian grain ship in Myra.
•    Rough, even dangerous travel

e.    Vs. 10-Paul’s prophesy in Fair Haven 
•    (in 59 AD Yom Kippur was on Oct. 5th)
•    Before this trip to Rome Paul logged 3500 miles on the Mediterranean in eleven voyages. He is experienced.
•    Phoenix Harbor (Phineka Bay) faces East 

f.    Eurokludwn = Eurokludon = “north wind east wind” (vv. 14-20)

g.    Rough Going – Revised Prophesy – Angelic Input
•    Vs 21 – Paul not saying “I told you so” as much as he is saying, “Now maybe you will believe I know what I’m talking about.” 
•    It also helps to have the testimony of an Angel.
 
IV.    The Shipwreck (27:27-44)
a.    Paul foils a Plot to Escape and Breaks Bread for 276 (vv. 30-37)

b.    Run Aground on a Reef (Prisoner’s Spared for Paul’s sake)

c.    Safe on Malta (name means “a place of refuge”)
V.    Winter at Malta (28:1-10)
a.    Met with Kindness
•    Paul’s “just” reward?
1.    Justice - the goddess Dike
•    Paul a murderer or a god? (Lystra in Acts 14:11-19)

b.    Publius, the Man of the Island
•    His father ill with Malta Fever 
1.    In 1887 discovered to be caused by Micrococcus Melitensis from the milk of Maltese goats. Fever lasted average of 4 months but could continue for 2-3 years.

c.    Miracles and Provisions
•    Vs 8  iaomai = iaomai = heal or “make whole”
•    Vs 9  qerapeuw = therapeuo = heal or cure

VI.    Rome at Last! (28:11-16)
a.    Last leg of Sea voyage 
•    Figurehead of dioskouroi =Dioskouroi
•    Twin Brothers – Sons of Zeus (Jupiter) Castor and Pollux -Gemini symbol
   
b.    “Thus We Came to Rome” (vv. 14-16)
•    A week with Fellow Believers
•    Welcome party from Rome
•    Paul in rented quarters

a.    Your strength lies in the Anchor of your faith. (Hebrews 6:18-20)

b.    Even in times of great turmoil and trial, we can depend on our faith and be helpful to the needs of others.
