Session FOUR: REPRESSION BEGINS

I.    ANNOUNCEMENTS and PRAYER CONCERNS 
II.    Read / Listen / Discuss ACTS 3:1-26
a.    Discuss initial observations / translation differences

III.    SOME NOTABLE OBSERVATIONS
a.    In Acts 3 Dr. Luke bears witness to the manifestation of three gifts of the Holy Spirit:
i.    Faith, Healing, Miracles (see Spiritual Gifts handout) 

b.    From Acts chapter 3 to chapter 8 we see a pattern in the way circumstances happen that also help the church grow in witness, faith, and number.
i.    I refer to it as M.A.T.C.H.

c.    Repression against Christ’s followers (The Way) produces two important reactions:  
i.    The Holy Spirit produces BOLDNESS in the Believer’s witness
ii.    The church is compelled toward missions 
1.    “Missions” primarily means preaching about Jesus Christ to encourage people to come to faith in Him.

IV.    PONDERING THE PASSAGE
a.    What happened? (vv. 3:1-11)
i.    The M and A in MATCH
ii.    Herod’s Temple 
iii.    Josephus  on “the beautiful gate.”
iv.    Dr. Luke’s Medical terms (vv. 2, 7, 8)

b.    Peter’s response to what happened: (vv. 3:12-26)
i.    The T in MATCH
ii.    Not human power – Peter is bold but not egotistical
iii.    The Powerful Name of Jesus (vv. 13-16)
iv.    Invitation to Repent and Believe (vv. 17-21)
v.    Three blessings for repentance:
1.    Sins will be wiped out
2.    Time of refreshing from the Lord 
a.    apokatastasiv (apokatastasis)
3.    God will send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you.

The Christian mission and message is in the Name of Jesus.

Ministry opportunities happen when we least expect them – maybe even on our way to church!

The Holy Spirit will give boldness to proclaim the truth about Christ.

God blesses the proclamation of His Word!
