God’s Victory Plunder
John 16:13-15 - Victory Fellowship
October 31, 2021 - Rev. Roderick Grabski

I.    Introduction:
a.    O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Pete says, “Do NOT seek the treasure”

b.    God does seek His treasure. Throughout Israel’s history God used His resources to establish Worship and restore and redeem His people.

c.    God, through Jesus Christ, continues to do so. We are in fact God’s Victory Plunder.

II.    RELATING THE TEXT
a.    We are the Lord’s possession. Everything the Father has He has given to Jesus.

b.    Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit to build up His church. We are the Temple of God.

c.    Every Tabernacle or Temple building in the Bible finds the structure built with victory plunder.

d.    Moses Building the Tabernacle in Wilderness
i.    Exodus 3:21-22; (also 11:2-3; 12:35-36)
21 "I will grant this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you will not go empty-handed. 22 "But every woman shall ask of her neighbor and the woman who lives in her house, articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing; and you will put them on your sons and daughters. Thus you will plunder the Egyptians."

e.    Building Solomon’s Temple
i.    1st Chronicles 26:26-27
26 This Shelomoth and his relatives had charge of all the treasures of the dedicated gifts which King David and the heads of the fathers' households, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the commanders of the army, had dedicated. 27 They dedicated part of the spoil won in battles to repair the house of the LORD.

f.    Ezra/Nehemiah (Ezra 1:6-7)
6 All those about them encouraged them with articles of silver, with gold, with goods, with cattle and with valuables, aside from all that was given as a freewill offering. 7 Also King Cyrus brought out the articles of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and put in the house of his gods;

III.    Application
a.    Jesus took captivity captive. Ephesians 4:7-10

7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift 8 Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN." 9 (Now this expression, "He ascended," what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) (Psalm 68:18)

b.    The exodus from Egypt brought the Tabernacle
c.    The exodus from Babylon brought the rebuilding
d.    Jesus’ exodus from Earth brings the Holy Spirit
John 14:16-17 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

IV.    Conclusion
a.    As God stirred the hearts of Pharaoh, Cyrus and the people of Egypt and Babylon to facilitate the building up of His church and the restoration of His people, so the Holy Spirit stirs up our heart to build up God’s Kingdom until Jesus returns.

b.    Everyone who trusts in Jesus Christ participates in His exodus and are delivered from sin and bondage.

c.    The faithful are God’s Victory Plunder.

PRAYER
SONG: Ghost

John 16:13-15 HCSB
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 Everything the Father has is Mine. This is why I told you that He takes from what is Mine and will declare it to you.
