Even Greater Works

Even Greater Works
John 14:12-14 – Victory Fellowship
April 11, 2021 - Rev. Roderick Grabski

I. Introduction: Greater Works
a. In his book, The Weight of Glory, C.S. Lewis notes how believers often underestimate the full riches God has for His children.

"...If we consider...the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures...like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

b. All you have to do is ask in your time of need. That’s what Jesus is telling His disciples - If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

II. Relating the Text:
a. Here in chapter 14, John records Jesus’ encouragement to the disciples about what happens after He leaves them.

b. After that Jesus concludes with what was read this morning –

12 “I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
Keep on asking, Keep on seeking, Keep on knocking – you will gain what you seek.

III. Application
a. Rather than cower to Covid-19, I believe it is time to ask God for greater things for our congregation.

b. Church online – Webpage, livestream

c. Old-fashioned one on one talk about it - witness.

IV. Conclusion
a. I’m telling you that God wants to answer our prayers. He desires your faithful testimony.

b. We must make seeking and serving God our agenda and God will make us His agenda. He will help us to be more than conquerors! We just gotta have faith.
